Fernando Botero, the Colombian Painter and Sculptor, produced these in 2005. They are part of a series, currently on tour, depicting the torture of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib. They are stark and brutal in their portrayal and feature Botero’s trademark of corpulent people. Botero has stated that he does not plan to sell the paintings, but instead intends to donate them to museums as a reminder of the events depicted within.
