Pierre Auguste Renoir – Dance in the Country, Dance in the City
1882-3, Musee d’Orsay, Paris
Renoir painted these, nearly life size dancing couples between 1882 & 1883. The differences are quite marked, between the carefree, relaxed and happy pair in “Dance in the Country” and the more elegant, composed, even stilted pair in “Dance in the City”.
The composition is typical of Renoir’s flowing style.
A third painting “Dance at Bougival” was also produced.
